Katy Perry To Play 2015 Superbowl Halftime Show
By Lesa Browning
Yesterday it was announced that Katy Perry will be playing the 2015 Superbowl XLIX Halftime Show. Multiple sources have confirmed that the Pop Superstar was chosen from a short list that included Coldplay and Rihanna. It has also been widely talked about that the NFL would be asking performers to “pay to play” due to the fact that the halftime show has such a huge audience. I am not sure where the other two considered artists stand on this issue, but Perry was recently on ESPN’s College Game Day and stated that she is “not the kind of girl to pay to play the Superbowl.” Now, I doubt we will ever know for sure, but I like Katy Perry and think she is at the top of her game right now, Her Prismatic World Tour is likely the biggest tour of the season, wildly successful and selling out huge arenas all over the country. Contrary to what some might tell you, her fan base goes well beyond the tween set. She also has one of the largest social networks out there and is THE number one most followed person on Twitter. (yes girls, she has officially beaten out Justin Bieber)
So what do folks think of Katy Perry as halftime entertainment? Well, don’t read the comment sections of some of the online news sources if you happen to be a fan, because the commenters never seem to be kind. I am going to go out on a limb here and suggest they are in the minority based solely on Billboard charts and ticket sales alone. I attended one of Perry’s famous tours recently outside of Seattle, WA. It was by far the biggest and best show of the year. The woman can sing and dance and understands the value of pure entertainment. Really, we have nothing to worry about.
I like football. I live in Washington and am a Seahawks fan. You know, the team that WON the Superbowl in 2014. I will be watching the game in 2015 for sure and now that I know Katy Perry will be doing the halftime show, I will be sure to stick around for that too because whatever she does will be big and worthy of our time.
Superbowl XLIX will be played in Glendale, Arizona on February 1, 2015
