Camila Breaks Records!

Camila Breaks Records! An iTune record has been broken with Camila Cabello’s debut album, Camila. Born Karla Camila Cabello Estrabao, the Cuban-American singer and songwriter has risen to fame in the past couple of years, grabbing third place on the 2012 X Factor show, while also singing as a member of the wildly popular girl band, Fifth Harmony. She is only 20 years old and her solo career is taking off at the speed of light since her album release on Friday, January 12, immediately taking the Number One spot on 99 different iTunes charts around the world, making her the first solo artist to ever achieve that many top spots. She’s also made it to Number Two on the Official Albums Chart. Her smash hit “Havana” was a chart topper for five weeks itself and is featured on the debut album as well.

Cabello left Fifth Harmony back in 2016, while 2017 brought about her first solo single. The reason for leaving has been confirmed as a lack of encouragement by colleagues in a solo gig alongside her group work. While bands are great for launching careers, many artists feel a need to establish solo careers as well in order to get ahead of the game. Cabello’s collaborations with other top artists were very well received, pushing her “I Know What You Did Last Summer” with Shawn Mendes and “Bad Things” with Machine Gun Kelly up into the top 20 Billboard Hot 100 charts. While “Crying in the Club” was her first solo release, the popularity of “Havana” has since then replaced it as the official lead single. With 100 countries having her as Number One on their lists this week and a fresh, lady-like style we can all admire, Camila Cabello is well on her way to stardom. She is one of the hottest Latino superstars at the moment, her heart split between Havana and Mexico City, despite living in Florida for the past 15 years. It’s exciting to see where her solo career will take her in the coming years!
