Coheed and Cambria’s New Album: Out with Concept, In With Feelings
Music Mix Daily Staff
Coheed and Cambria have announced that their new album, The Color Before the Sun, will be released on October 9th of this year. The record’s first single, “You Got Spirit, Kid,” that you can listen to below, is available for digital download starting today, July 10th, though it has been streaming on the band’s site since July 7th.
The group’s 8th studio album, recorded in Nashville and produced by Jay Joyce, brings some startling and exciting changes to Coheed and Cambria’s body of work. With influences including Led Zeppelin and At the Drive In, the progressive rock-metal band’s album will be the first to veer from an imaginary alternative world that their previous albums lived within.
Known as Amory Wars, the conceptual sci-fi universe has been replaced by the lead singer, Claudio Sanchez’s, desire to explore personal feelings. The Armory Wars, created and designed by Sanchez, have also been produced as comic books and a full-length novel. The stories themselves are heavily influence by popular science fiction, including Star Wars amongst other seminal works.
Sanchez hopes the new album will go to places he has never gone before. He promises that the new album will “cross a line,” sharing that he always felt “there’s never been a limitation on the band,” which we can only assume means he feels comfortable walking away from Armory Wars, at least for now. We also like to think he is speaking not only of the group’s new focus of personal issues, but also perhaps of changes and adaptions in the music itself.
If you can’t wait until October 9th, be sure to check out Coheed and Cambria at one of their festival appearances this summer. For starters, the band will be headlining August’s Hevy Festival. Who knows, maybe you’ll get lucky and they’ll play some of their new material!
