It’s honestly one of the strangest groups we ever thought we’d write about. Heartthrob Johnny Depp is shedding his pirate ways and stepping on stage as a member of the Hollywood Vampires. He is joined by Joe Perry, Aerosmith’s lead guitarist and the eternal powerhouse Alice Cooper, known as the father of Shock Rock. Top it off with the support of ex-Guns N’ Roses members Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum, and there is no doubting that the Hollywood Vampires will be an epic stage act.
The supergroup got its name from the 70’s rockers who used to hang out at the Rainbow on the Sunset Strip, including John Lennon, Keith Moon, and (of course) Cooper himself. In fact, their first live shows will be at the Roxy on the Sunset Strip. (These are also their only planned U.S. shows – so better get tickets fast if you can’t imagine missing it!)
As it turns out, the group plays a big mix of cover songs that come from the original Hollywood Vampires. So if you manage to catch one of their shows, you’ll be hearing The Doors “Break on Through,” Jimi Hendrix’s “Manic Depression” and The Who’s “My Generation,” amongst other big hits from back in the day. But don’t let that be all you go for, as the Hollywood Vampires have also recorded some of their own, original songs.
Plus, as if their star-studded group wasn’t enough, their debut album, aptly titled Hollywood Vampires, features plenty of distinguished musicians, including Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl, AC/DC’s Brain Johnson, Paul McCartney, and Slash!
To top it off, we are proud of the boys, who’ve decided that all artist proceeds from the album will go to the charity MusiCares. So what are you waiting for? Oh, yeah, the album drop date – September 11th.
