Disclosure and Lorde

Take a Listen to Lorde’s Catchy Vocals on Disclosure’s New Album

New Zealand’s singer-songwriter, Lorde, is putting her voice to good use yet again, this time in collaboration with the electronic brothers who make up Disclosure.          A teaser of the song, “Magnets,” has just been released, showcasing Lorde’s vocals over the duo’s heavy drums track.

The full song will be featured on Disclosure’s second album, Caracal.

UK born-and-bread brothers, Howard and Guy Lawrence, make up the electro-group and have been riding the success of their first album, Settle, since 2013. In fact, Settle, so impressed the world that it was even nominated for the Best Dance/Electronica Album at the 2014 Grammy Awards.

With such success, the brothers are no strangers to collaboration. Disclosure has worked with the likes of Sam Smith and Kawbs for starters. In fact, with the highly anticipated release of their next album, Disclosure has been teasing the world with short tracks and even film clips over the past few months. This has included a song that turned into a total summer hit, “Holding On,” which featured the celebrated jazz singer Gregory Porter. Most recently, they released a track called “Hourglass” with Lion Babe.

Still, Disclosure said they felt something incredibly special when working with the talented Lorde. Guy Lawrence shared that she really “challenged” the duo and was involved in every step of the song’s making, not just coming in once to record vocals.

Performing since she was a young child, the still-young Lorde has always taken a different approach to music than some of her more hands-off pop star brethren. Writing her own music, Lorde has even gone so far as to attack the lifestyles of the rich and the famous, as she does in her hit song “Royals,” often setting her apart from the rest of the pack.

But on Magnets, we’ve been more enthralled with her voice than anything else. With influences including jazz and soul musicians like Billie Holiday and Otis Redding and a deep, strong voice, it is no wonder that Disclosure chose to feature her voice over a simple drum track on their collaborative piece.

Carcal, which will feature the full “Magnet’s track, is set to be released on September 25th.
