Little Big Town fans have good reason to be excited! The band is releasing their their new album The Breaker on February 24th, and they’ll also be performing at this Sunday’s Grammy Awards. Tell us in the comments: Did you know all of these fun facts about our Artist of the Month?
1. Little Big Town was actually formed as a duo. In 1987, Kimberly Schlapman and Karen Fairchild became friends at college and began signing with each other. Fast forward to 1997… and Jimi Westbrook joined them. Two years later Phillip Sweet made the group a quartet.
2. They signed their first record deal with Mercury Nashville Records, but they were eventually dropped from the label without releasing an album or a single.
3. Members Karen Fairchild and Jimi Westbrook are married. The two developed feelings for each other while in the group, but waited to act on them until they were both single. They got married in 2006 and had their first child in 2010.
4. In 2014 Little Big Town was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry… a very major accomplishment for any country music artist or group!
5. Hows this for a fun fact: In a 2016 episode of Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Westbrook told the audience that he had won a statewide modeling competition when he was 18!
6. In that same episode, Fairchild admitted that she once ditched the cops by driving down a dirt road with her mom in the passenger seat!
7. The Breaker is their 8th studio album. To promote it, they will be playing at least 9 intimate concerts at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium. This will be the very first residency ever at the historic venue!
8. “Better Man,” their first single from The Breaker, was written by Taylor Swift.
9. Last month, the group surprised members of an Ohio high school’s choir, who were in Orlando for a Disney Performing Arts workshop. As the choir sat watching a Little Big Town interview on screen, all four members of the group entered the room. Needless to say, the students were pretty excited!
