The All-Star Black Panther soundtrack
The all-star Black Panther soundtrack brings us the release of the latest track by Kendrick Lamar, a collaboration with The Weeknd, available today. “Pray For Me“ is a dark new piece that includes rhythmic synth beats and also some pretty deep lyrics that have us asking much-needed questions. While The Weeknd sings, Lamar answers with empowering words in rap form. The album as a whole includes Lamar on five of its fourteen tracks and includes music from Travis Scott, Jorja Smith, SZA, The Weeknd, Vince Staples, Khalid, and more.
The words of this song are so powerful, they really do deserve a mention. The chorus keeps coming back with a haunting, “Who gon’ pray for me?/ Take my pain for me?/ Save my soul for me?/ ‘Cause I’m alone, you see.” At the same time, Lamar brings us verses such as, “Who need a hero?/ You need a hero, look in the mirror, there go your hero / Who on the front lines at Ground Zero?/ My heart skip a beat, even when hard times bumps the needle.” See what we mean?
Black Panther is a Marvel film that has already jumped to the top tier, with rave reviews and incredible feedback, all before the official release date of February 16th. It has been called “a fresh and significant Marvel chapter,” and that should be enough to get Marvel fans excited. Kendrick Lamar has personally curated and produced the soundtrack for the film along with Top Dawg Entertainment producer Anthony Tiffith.
In honor of February being Black History Month, The New York Times has released and article “28 Days, 28 Films for Black History Month” and in the article they mention Ryan Coogler’s “Black Panther” as the first Marvel superhero movie from a black director and one of the most anticipated releases of the year.
