Born William Sami Etienne Grigahcine, DJ Snake is quickly becoming one of the major stars in the EDM scene. Here’s some facts about the Parisian producer and musician that you might not know:

1. How did he get the name DJ Snake? Well, in his teen years he was known for his graffiti art in his hometown of Banlieue (a district outside of Paris). He got the name “Snake” from friends because of his ability to evade the police. Once he started DJing, the name stuck!

3.  He’s best known for co-producing Lil Jon’s “Turn Down for What” in 2013. He also collaborated with Major Lazer and MØ on “Lean On”, and Justin Bieber on “Let Me Love You”. He’s worked with many other artists including Kanye West, Lady Gaga, and more.

4. The name he originally had in mind for “Turn Down For What” was “Bang The Underground”. And instead of Lil Jon, he initially wanted Redman to be on the track.
