The New Wave R&B dance group Fitz and The Tantrums recently kicked off their fall tour. If you’re a fan, here’s 5 things you should know about the band:

1. Formed in Los Angeles in 2008, Fitz and The Tantrums is made up of Michael Fitzpatrick (lead vocals), John Wicks (drums and percussion), Noelle Scaggs (co-lead vocals and percussion), Jeremy Ruzumna (keyboards), James King (saxophone, flute, keyboard, percussion and guitar), and Joseph Karnes (bass guitar). Fitzpatrick started the group after purchasing an old church organ and writing “Breakin’ the Chains of Love” on the same day.

2. After just one week as a band, the group booked a gig at Hotel Café in Hollywood. In 2009, they went on tour with Maroon 5. Adam Levine discovered them while he was getting a tattoo. The owner of the tattoo parlor had been playing their EP, and told him to check the band out!

3. Where did “Fitz” come from? It’s just a short version of Fitzpatrick’s last name.

4. The band’s debut album, 2010’s Pickin’ Up the Pieces, was recorded in Fitzpatrick’s living room. Talk about DIY!
