Will you be seeing Garbage live when they kick off their tour in July? The songs from their new album, Strange Little Birds, pay homage to their 1995 debut album, Garbage. This album does not disappoint! Here’s 5 fun facts about the Scottish-American band:

1. Garbage came together in Madison Wisconsin way back in 1993. The group is made up of Scottish singer Shirley Manson, as well as her American bandmates Duke Erikson (bass, guitar, keyboards), Steve Marker (keyboards, guitar), and Butch Vig (drums, percussion). Their first chart-topping singles were “Stupid Girl” and “Only Happy When It Rains”.

2. Butch Vig was already a well-known producer in the 90’s, having worked on platinum selling records such as Nirvana’s Nevermind and the Smashing Pumpkins’ Siamese Dream. He, Erikson and Marker were in Madison one night watching MTV, when they saw a little-known band called Angelfish on an alternative showcase. They contacted the band’s singer, Shirley, and asked her to audition for them. The rest is history!

3. It took over 2 years to write and record Strange Little Birds. Shirley has said in interviews that the album has themes of vulnerability and weakness. Meanwhile Butch has used the terms “atmospheric”, “cinematic” and “dark” to describe their new music and lyrics.
