If you had the chance to attend Lollapalooza, you may have seen Lana Del Rey’s dreamy, otherworldly performance, which received rave reviews. Although there’s so many rumors and myths about her floating around the internet, we’ve compiled these 5 truths about the songstress…

1. Born Elizabeth Woolridge Grant, Del Rey actually began her singing career early… as a cantor in her Lake Placid, NY church choir, that is! She’s been writing her own music since she was 7-years-old.

2. At 15, her parents sent her to a boarding school in Connecticut to deal with alcohol addiction, which she overcame. When she turned 18, she moved to New York City to study Metaphysics at Fordham University. These days, it’s her music which explores the fundamental nature of being!

3. She has credited both Britney Spears and Curt Cobain as being major musical influences.

4. In 2011, she told GQ that she had achieved success because she’s at peace: “I already have it. I had it a long time ago. It’s nothing to do with my music. Music is secondary at this point. The good stuff is really good, but I have success because I’m at peace and I’m a good person in my everyday life and that’s important.”
