M83’s new album, Junk, is set to be released on April 8, and the band will also be embarking on a worldwide tour. Just who is this group that has released 6 (soon to be 7) successful albums and 2 soundtracks? Take a look!

1. The EDM group was founded in 2001 in France by Anthony Gonzalez. These days, however, they are based in Los Angeles. Originally, M83 was a duo composed of Gonzalez and Nicolas Fromageau. Fromageau has since left the band. Members now include Gonzalez as well as Loïc Maurin (drummer), Jordan Lawlor (multi-instrumentalist), Kaela Sinclair (singer-keyboardist) and Ian Young (saxophone).

2. Their 2011 breakthrough single, “Midnight City” was also the first single from their Grammy-nominated album Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming. In 2013, the remix of “Midnight City” was used in the Gucci Premier fragrance TV ad featuring Blake Lively.

3. Junk is the group’s first album in 5 years! Beck is one of the surprise guests on the album. The tracklist looks like this:

1. Do It, Try It
2. Go!
3. Walkway Blues
4. Bibi the Dog
5. Moon Crystal
6. For the Kids
7. Solitude
8. The Wizard
9. Laser Gun
10. Road Blaster
11. Tension
12. Atlantique Sud
13. Time Wind
14. Ludivine
15. Sunday Night 1987

4. Last month, Gonzalez took to social media to find a keyboardist. He asked candidates to “make a short video recording of yourself showing your proficiency across the instruments listed above” and asked them to upload the clips to YouTube. In the end, Florida native Kaela Sinclair (winner of the Best Pianist/Keyboardist award at the 2015 Dallas Observer Music Awards) was chosen for the job!
