Are you a fan of Santigold’s most recent album, 99 Cents? If so, you’ll be happy that we picked her for our Weekly Spotlight. She’s certainly come a long way from her days working in the music industry as a talent scout for Epic Records! Here’s 5 fast facts you should know about her:

1. Born Santi White in 1976 in Philadelphia, Santigold got her nickname in the 90’s from a friend. She decided to leave her A&R representative job to help write and produce Res’s first album, How I Do.

2. She sang for the Philly punk band Stiffed, but was later offered a solo contract by Lizard King Records in London. John Hill from Stiffed helped her with her 2008 debut album, Santogold.  Diplo, Switch, Jonnie “Most” Davis, and Chuck Treece all appeared on the album. It was so well-received that she was able to tour for 2 years with it.

3. Santigold is a master of all trades. Not only does she write her own music, but she co-produces and engineers it. She even choreographs her performances!

4. In November 2015 she released the first single from 99 Cents, “Can’t Get Enough of Myself”. This February, the interactive video for the song was aired, which allowed viewers to insert themselves into it!
