STS9 recently confirmed their new album — their first full-length studio one in 8 years — called The Universe Inside. Set to be released on September 2,  it’s being billed as a full-circle return from 1998’s debut album, Interplanetary Escape. Want to know more about this amazingly popular instrumental band from Georgia? Read on!

1. The full name of STS9 is Sound Tribe Sector 9. For the past 18 years, they’ve been incredibly popular in the festival circuit, and have even been consistently ranked in Pollstar Magazine’s list of top-grossing touring acts. They’re known for mixing live rock music with electronics.

2. STS9’s current band members are Hunter Brown (guitar/midi keyboard), Alana Rocklin (bass guitar), Zach Velmer (drums), Jeffree Lerner (percussion/handsonic) and David Phipps (keyboards). Many of the band members currently call Santa Cruz, California their home.

3. STS9 has raised a great deal of money for their activism efforts. One such effort raised $150,000 for The Make it Right Foundation, which rebuilds homes that were devastated by Hurricane Katrina. They’ve also worked with Conscious Alliance to host food drives at many of their shows.

4. The band owns their own record label, 1320 Records. It’s released music from over 100 artists, including Pretty Lights, Bassnectar and The Glitch Mob.
