We love their new single, “Your Love Could Start A War”! Just who are The Unlikely Candidates? Formed in 2008, in Fort Worth, Texas, this five-piece band consists of Kyle Morris (vocals), Cole Male (guitar), Kevin Goddard (drums), Brenton Carney (lead guitar), and Jared Hornbeek (bass). Check out 5 fun facts about The Unlikely Candidates:

 

1. Kyle and Cole met in one of the most unusual places… in a Texas juvenile detention center! At the time, they were both booked as juveniles on one count each of  grand theft auto. They ended up going to the same high school afterwards, and began collaborating on music together.

2. At first, Kyle and Cole didn’t know much about writing music. Neither had been in a band before, and their main goal was to move out of their small town.

3. After high school, Kyle went to Texas A&M, but didn’t stay in college long. Instead, he  left Fort Worth and traveled around Europe for a year and a half, performing as a singer in the streets. He has said that the adventure made him a better songwriter. Upon his return to Texas, he met up again with Cole and they ended up forming The Unlikely Candidates.

4. They wrote the song “Your Love Could Start A War” about a protest they witnessed in NYC after the death of Eric Garner, a man who was suffocated by the NYPD as he was being arrested for selling loose cigarettes.

 

 

5. One of their first hits “Follow My Feet” spent 20 weeks on the Billboard Charts!
